Questions:

Please, tell us about how you got into wine, the wine industry and how your career developed?

When I was a teenager I wanted to become a car designer. I wasn’t interested in wine at all. But at the same time I didn’t want to break up with the family tradition. So after finishing school I started one year of several internships in the wine-industry and in the design industry. But after my first experiences it was almost clear that I will become a winemaker so I started my apprenticeship as a winemaker. After that I went to Geisenheim to study Viticulture and Enology and did some more internships during the semester breaks. So now I am working together with my father.

What is your philosophy to making wine and viticulture?

For us it’s important that the wines taste good in the first place. We think that good quality occurs in the vineyard and in the cellar we try to do as less influence as possible. I am pretty open for new ideas of creating wine and I think it’s important to try new methods and to play with the style of the wines but at the end the wine must be good and well balanced and this is only possible if you let the wine develop itself.

Which cultivar is your favorite to work with and why?

Actually I don’t have a favorite variety. I like the minerality of Riesling, the body of Chardonnay, the elegance of Pinot Noir and the power of Lemberger.

How do you see the future of wine production and what are the challenges and the opportunities?

I have no idea. But I am very excited about that! 🙂

Where do you see the global wine market in 2025?

I guess the market will be more and more open for all kind of different origins. I also think there will be more and more different Styles of Wines in the future.
